Jenny Raker was just nine years old when her parents were killed by a drunk
driver as they were walking back to their car from a party. The drunk
driver was sentenced to life in prison, but Jenny was left with a hole
in her life. Then, a couple of months later, police scientist Barry
Allen came to adopt little Jenny, since they were close friends for a long
time. Jenny has been with Barry for seven years now.
When Jenny was 15, she wanted to learn about her family tree for a school
project. She got much more than she bargained for, learning a special
family secret. According to the family history, one family member
in every fourth generation has inherited a series of psychic powers, including
telepathy and telekinesis. When Jenny signed her name in the family
book, she had no idea she was number 36 (i.e. 36 divides by 4), so she
never had any idea, until the night of her foster father's chemical accident.
The lightning bolt went through the window and hit the rack of dangerous
chemicals, causing them to explode. Just as Barry went flying through
the air, Jenny, back in the apartment, felt a terrible chill pass down
her back. She did not know what exactly was going on, but she could
"see" what happened to Barry through his eyes. When Barry was released
from the hospital the next morning, he helped her try to figure out why
she was able to tell his danger from so far away. Jenny realized
then she was the ninth member of the Raker family to be gifted with the
psychic powers.
To understand the full extent of her powers, Jenny decided to go with Barry
to see Tina McGhee, a Star Labs scientist. While Tina was running
tests on Barry, Jenny sensed he had suddenly been gifted with super speed.
For his part, Barry was somehow able to establish telepathic communication
with Jenny as Tina was testing her. Jenny was able to move objects
with just a thought and could change from one outfit to another the same
way. Both Barry and Jenny understood their capabilities and decided to
make use of them as superheroes. Barry became The Flash, and Jenny
became Midnight Girl, both using their powers against crime. For
her birthday, Jenny received a motorscooter and a motorcycle, which she
called the Blue Stallion. If there is trouble and little time to
react, Jenny can change into a superhero just by thinking about it.
