As the middle sibling of the Carter sisters, Virginia (she prefers Gina)
sometimes has life at its toughest, having to listen to her older sister
Crystal and looking after her younger sister Candy to keep her on the right
track. It is difficult, but Gina always cares for her sisters, especially
after reforming from a forced life of crime.
Like her sisters, Gina was given a genetically altering formula to change
her into a "special being," as her father called the three daughters.
Whenever he slipped the formula into her food and drink, he would know
Gina would become something special to him. In this case, Gina began
to develop the power of firing blinding flashes of glittering light.
By the time she was eight, she was forced to join her older sister and
father in committing robberies. She was able to use her ability on
the bank guards and keep them blinded until the bank was robbed.
For five years, she was compelled into leading a criminal life. She
felt disheartened when her father told her what to do, or else she would
be severely punished.
Fortunately, her older sister Crystal convinced her to stop the abuse by
turning on their father. Gina was always the closest to him, even
though Smitty was a criminal. She was afraid to confront her father,
but she had had enough of robbing banks to allow her father to continue
his awful research methods. When the Super Good Gals promised to
aid the sisters in turning Smitty in, Gina knew where her heart was.
Therefore, in the daylight attempt, she assisted in stopping her father
with the blinding light flashes. She was slightly upset for having
to turn her own father over to the authorities, yet she finally realized
she had been abused by her father by scientific means. She wanted
to combat crime, not commit it.
Because of the endowed ability she had, Gina wanted to have a costume matching
one of her favorite rock artists, Gary Glitter (famous for the stadium
song "Rock and Roll Part 2"). Little Miss Marvel transformed Gina's
outfit into a nearly exact match of Gary Glitter's outfit, with more glitter
obviously. At that point, Gina took the name "Gina Glitter." The
outfit itself could blind someone during the day. For Gina to transform
into the costume, she surrounds herself in a blinding light and emerges
in her glittered clothing. Then, she can use her light powers to
assist the forces of good and feel better about herself.
